As part of the Carroll County Comprehensive Plan update, the County youth were solicited to participate in the plan update by providing feedback on a variety of different topics. One component of the youth participation activities was to complete a special places map. The youth were asked to draw a map with the special places of their community. It was up to the youth to define their community and then incorporate the special places, which could include, but was not limited to, natural features, scenery, buildings, landmarks and meeting spots.
This map was sent to many youth groups throughout Carroll County. Hundreds of packets were provided to the offices of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, Carroll County 4-H, and the county offices for the Boy Scouts. Carroll County Public Schools was emailed numerous times regarding the youth participation packet, and packets were mailed to all youth organizations listed in the Carroll County Community Services Directory. All packets were distributed or mailed in September 2005. The original deadline for submission of the map was December 31, 2005. Maps may still be submitted at any time during the process.
As of the December deadline, four maps were received. Click on the links below to view the maps.
